💡 Education Tips for Veterans
- GI Bill Covers More Than Tuition: Post-9/11 GI Bill pays tuition, a monthly housing allowance (BAH rate for E-5 with dependents), AND up to $1,000/year in books. At many state schools it's a full ride.
- Yellow Ribbon Program: If your school costs more than GI Bill covers, the Yellow Ribbon Program tops up the gap — the VA and your school split the difference. Full list at va.gov/education/yellow-ribbon-participating-schools.
- SkillBridge — Get Paid While Interning: DoD SkillBridge lets you work for a civilian company for up to 180 days before separation while still receiving full military pay. Over 500 partner companies participate.
- State Tuition Waivers: Many states offer free or heavily discounted tuition at state universities for veterans — especially those with service-connected disabilities. Check your state's veterans affairs site.
- Chapter 31 Voc Rehab: VA Vocational Rehabilitation (Chapter 31) pays for education or training PLUS housing allowance for veterans with service-connected disabilities — even if you've already used GI Bill benefits.
